About One, Two...I Do
Thank you for your interest in One, Two…I Do.
One, Two…I Do is a faith-based relationship education program for adolescents aged 13-19. It was co-written by Charlene Kamper, the author of the Connections programs; Connections: Relationships and Marriage, and Connections: Dating and Emotions, (published by The Dibble Institute), and daughter Shana Kamper, also a credentialed teacher who has taught at the secondary level for the past eleven years. They have collaborated to develop an easy to teach in-depth study of interpersonal relationship development for young people.
Char Kamper’s Connections series has been successfully used nationally by public education institutions, teen pregnancy prevention programs, teen community outreach organizations, and the juvenile authority, over the past decade. As a result of numerous requests by the faith-based community for a relationship program specifically for their youth population, One, Two…I Do was developed through a grant from the Division of Religion of the Lilly Endowment, Inc. through the University of Chicago Divinity School's Religion, Culture, and Family project under the direction of Dr. Don S. Browning. The lessons in One, Two…I Do provide a basic guide for understanding the development of healthy relationships, including marriage, from a Biblical perspective.
The program concepts have been divided into Student Guide I and Student Guide II in order to maximize age appropriate instruction. Student Guide I, (Lessons 1-8), establishes the Biblical foundation for developing healthy life relationships based on a personal relationship with God as a model. Student Guide I was written for younger adolescents who is just beginning to develop an understanding of meaningful friendships, and choosing a dating partnership. This guide can be with all adolescent age groups.
Student Guide II (Lessons 9-16) specifically addresses issues of family, and discusses the development of relationship skills that lead to successful marriage. These lessons are recommended for older adolescents who are able to process relationship concepts at a deeper level. Instructors may use one or both programs together, depending on the needs of their youth audience. The program lessons can also easily be adapted for use in existing relationship education programs as supplemental materials for discussion.
We hope that this program will have a significant spiritual impact for young people everywhere who use it as they learning about meaningful relationships with God and others.
